Councilmember Bart Turner to Host Barrel District Meeting Oct. 26th
Glendale Councilmember Bart Turner hosts the next Barrel District meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 6-8 p.m. on the front lawn of the Main House at Sahuaro Ranch Historic Area.

All Barrel District residents are invited to come for a tour of the charming brick Main House, with its Victorian furnishings, that was built in 1895. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Sahuaro Ranch is one of the best-preserved examples of early ranches in the Phoenix area.

Representatives from various city departments will be in attendance to answer questions about city services. Councilmember Turner looks forward to meeting district residents and answering any questions residents have about city issues.

Barrel District - Meet Councilmember Bart Turner
Councilmember Bart Turner was elected in November 2014 to represent the Barrel District and began his term on December 9, 2014.
Turner, a Glendale native, was a founding board member of the Valley Citizens League. He has a wide range of service on community boards, commissions, service organizations, and committees and was awarded the Glendale Community Council’s Volene Stockham Humanitarian Award recognizing a lifetime of community service. He also received the Glendale Commission on Neighborhoods Spark Award recognizing leadership in neighborhood revitalization in the Catlin Court neighborhood. Read more | Contact Info

New on “Glendale Today” – City Councilmember Bart Turner Showcases the Glendale Adult Center

Councilmember Bart Turner of the Barrel District takes viewers on a tour of the Glendale Adult Center, a facility offering a wide variety of activities for adults of all ages on his new edition of the TV show “Glendale Today.”   Councilmember Turner’s guest and leader of the tour is Anthony Garcia, the Recreation Coordinator for the Adult Center. Programs profiled include the computer lab, gym equipment and fitness classes for all levels, daily meals at the cafeteria, arts and crafts, billiards, sewing, the fix-it shop, holiday lunch events and so much more. Viewers also learn how to get a membership or just try out the facility, the new extended hours of operation, transportation to the Adult Center and even tours to other attractions in the Valley and around the state.

New on “Glendale Today” – Councilmember Bart Turner Celebrates 50 Years of Glendale Community College 
On this new edition of “Glendale Today”, Councilmember Bart Turner showcases Glendale Councilmember Bart Turner of the Barrel District showcases 50 years of education at Glendale Community College  on his new edition of the TV show “Glendale Today.” Councilmember Turner also takes viewers on a tour of the campus, highlighting the Public Safety Science Department, the Public Arts and Life Sciences buildings, the Fitness and Wellness Center and the new state-of-the-art Phillip Randolph Automotive Technology Center. Guests on the show include Eric Leshinskie, interim vice president of academic affairs, who talks about the first 50 years of educating West Valley residents and what new programs are being offered to the 25,000 students currently enrolled, and Jeff Hynes of the Public Safety Sciences Department, who discusses the important relationship between the city and the college in training tomorrow’s first responders. Glendale, AZ - News National Register of Historic Places
Thunderbird Estates / McDonald Addition subdivision, located between Northern Ave. and Royal Palm Rd. from 57th Dr. to 59th Ave., is the first Barrel District neighborhood to become eligible to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The nomination was considered by the State Historic Site Selection Committee in late January.  At that time the committee recommended to the State Historic Preservation Officer that the nomination be sent to the Keeper of the National Register. The Keeper makes the final determination to list or reject the nomination on the National Register.  48 properties were nominated as typifying the Ranch House of Post World War II.
