West Phoenix/Central Glendale Transit Study
In 2013, Valley Metro initiated a transit corridor study for the West Phoenix/Central Glendale area to identify high-capacity transit service options to connect downtown Glendale to the existing light rail system. The study has identified a transit service area from 19th Ave. to 67th Ave., and Northern Ave. to Camelback Rd. In partnership with the city of Phoenix, city of Glendale and the community, the study will determine a route location and a type of transit (light rail or bus rapid transit) that will best serve the area. This is one of several corridors identified in the voter-approved Regional Transportation Plan to add 40 miles of high-capacity transit to the existing 20-mile light rail system.

Construction of New Transit Center at Arrowhead Towne Center to Occur August – November 2015

Construction of a new transit center at Arrowhead Towne Center in north Glendale began in early August and will and take about three months to complete.  Pedestrian access to the mall north entrances will be maintained during construction.

The facility, which is scheduled to open in early November, will include new passenger amenities, including shaded bus shelters, free wi-fi, electrical outlets for phone chargers, bus pullouts and landscaping.  The current location has no dedicated passenger amenities. The $617,000 project is funded by the city of Glendale in partnership with Macerich, which owns and manages Arrowhead Towne Center.

Bus Rider Advisory

  • During construction, the current bus stop on the north side of Arrowhead Towne Center will be moved to a temporary location on the west side of AMC Theatres near Sears for approximately three months.
  • The facility serves as a transfer point for three Valley Metro bus routes: 67, 170 and 186.
  • It is recommended that bus passengers bring umbrellas for shade, as the temporary waiting area is not shaded.

Thank you for your patience while we build a new and improved transit center.
