This new event will take place every 2nd and 4th Saturdays in Downtown Glendale through the month of July. The Glendale Farmers Market's mission is to create a community gathering place in historic Downtown Glendale, while supporting local farmers, small businesses and community based organizations, many of which will also be invited to participate in various ways. In addition, the purpose of the market is to provide a marketplace for healthy, nutritious and sustainable foods systems for residents throughout the Valley.
Party for the Planet River & Trail Cleanup
7 to 10 a.m., Saturday, Apr. 23, at New River Trail, 99th Ave. & Northern Ave.
Join us for a volunteer project commemorating Earth Day hosted jointly by the cities of Glendale and Peoria. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to assist with river and trail cleanup. Bike to Work/School Week
“Like” riding your bike? Not loving your gas budget? Now you can get rewarded for riding your bike in Glendale and save some money and help the environment at the same time. April 20 is Bike to Work Day in the Valley, and Glendale is celebrating with a Facebook contest.
Simply “Travel Green” and ride your bike to work any day that week (April 17-23), post it on Facebook with a photo of you riding your bike and tag the city of Glendale so we can see you in action! Then, be sure you enter the Travel Green Contest on the city’s Facebook page (click on the contest tab at www.facebook.com/GlendaleAZ) to be entered in a random drawing for gift cards.
For those who don’t have a Facebook page, entries can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. Send a message with your name, phone number and email address to be entered into the random drawing. Make sure you send along a photo, too!

Arbor Day Tree Planting Celebration
with Desert Palms Elementary third-graders at Cholla Park, 53rd Avenue and Cholla Street

Arbor Day marks the 20th year that the City of Glendale has planted trees in celebration of the national holiday and will be recognizes as a Tree City USA city. Mayor Weiers will read the annual Arbor Day Proclamation and Councilmember Turner will speak to students. The students will be planting several new trees and displaying their artwork, especially created to the theme “Plant Trees…Make a Difference!” as part of the morning’s activities.
