Volunteer Position Description
Position Title: Welcome Desk Volunteer, Main Library
Responsible To: Circulation Department Volunteer Coordinator and, if applicable, Glendale Public Library staff.
Job Summary: Greet patrons as they come into the library and answer basic information questions.
Essential Functions: The I-Pod volunteer will answer basic information questions about the library, give directions, assist patrons using the self-checkout machines, do basic searches using online catalog. Straighten and shelve library materials as needed.
Time Required: Days and times volunteered are dependent on library needs and the availability of the volunteer. Typical shifts are 1-2 hours, once or twice a week.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Preference is given to volunteers with customer service background. Knowledge of library database is helpful. Ability to interact pleasantly with public, cooperate with staff, work independently with attention to detail and accuracy is necessary.
Working Conditions: Volunteer will work behind an information desk located at the entrance of the library, performing customer service duties. Requires standing for long periods of time. Extensive contact with the public is an integral part of this position. This position may require bending, squatting and pushing carts full of library materials.
Minimum Qualifications: Must be 18 years and older. PC skills are necessary along with keyboarding speed. Volunteer must be able to bend, stand, lift materials and push book carts full of heavy books.
