Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)
This is a mandatory retirement program for non-sworn (civilian) employees at the City of Glendale. Eligible participants must work at least 20 hours a week for 20 weeks in a fiscal year. ASRS provides a pension plan, long-term disability insurance, retiree health insurance and survivor benefits. Contributions begin immediately upon employment. This benefit is a shared contribution between the City and the employee.
•Eligibility for retirement benefits (when you can retire) is based on age and years of service.
•Retirement benefit amount (how much you receive) is determined by years of service and earnings.
•Members cannot borrow from their ASRS account.
•When an employee separates, they can receive a refund of their contributions or leave the funds in ASRS.
•Other government services may be eligible for purchase, such as military service and service in other retirement systems.
