Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS)

This is a mandatory retirement program for non-sworn (civilian) employees at the City of Glendale. Eligible participants must work at least 20 hours a week for 20 weeks in a fiscal year. ASRS provides a pension plan, long-term disability insurance, retiree health insurance and survivor benefits. Contributions begin immediately upon employment. This benefit is a shared contribution between the City and the employee.

ASRS 2024 Rates

Eligibility for retirement benefits (when you can retire) is based on age and years of service.
Retirement benefit amount (how much you receive) is determined by years of service and earnings.
Members cannot borrow from their ASRS account.
When an employee separates, they can receive a refund of their contributions or leave the funds in ASRS.
Other government services may be eligible for purchase, such as military service and service in other retirement systems.

Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS)

This is a mandatory retirement program for employees who work in sworn public safety positions who work at least 40 hours a week. PSPRS provides a pension plan, disability insurance, retiree health insurance and survivor benefits. Contributions begin immediately upon employment. This benefit is a shared contribution between the City and the employee.

Employee contributions vary depending on membership date, employer, and whether the employee pays into Social Security. Employer contributions vary, also. Find current information at: PSPRS Contributions

Pension plans can provide for a lifelong benefit based on years of service and salary.

CONTRIBUTIONS START AFTER 90 DAYS

Deferred Compensation - 457 Retirement Plan / Roth 457

During your employment with the City, you may elect to participate in either a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan or Roth 457 contributions. This plan can help you defer money to help you save toward your retirement goals.

Roth 457 after-tax contributions and traditional before-tax 457 deferrals both have advantages. You should thoroughly review your options and consider consulting a financial professional prior to electing your contribution percentages.
