Travel To/From Work

What is the purpose of a Travel Reduction Program?

The Travel Reduction Program (TRP) is a Maricopa County ordinance P-7 that requires employers with 50 or more employees and/or driving-aged students reporting to one site at least three days a week, six months per year to participate in the program. The purpose of this ordinance is to reduce traffic impacts on air pollution and emissions within Maricopa County by requiring major employers and schools to develop, implement and maintain a Travel Reduction Program. Travel Green is Glendale's program to support Maricopa County's Travel Reduction Program.

What are the goals of the program?

Employers and schools are asked to reduce single occupant vehicle (SOV) trips and/or miles traveled to the work site by 10 percent a year for the first five years the employer or school is in the program, then 5 percent each year thereafter, or until a rate of 60 percent SOV travel is reached.

How does Travel Green impact Glendale employees?

Glendale offers incentives to employees who use an alternative mode of transportation. There is a quarterly drawing and a drawing on every HPA day (M-F). Qualifications for the these drawings require one of the following:

  • Ride bus/light rail to work
  • Carpool/vanpool to work
  • Ride a bicycle to work
  • Walk to work
  • Drive a hybrid or electric vehicle to work
  • Telework
  • Work a compressed work week

Additional incentives include, 100-percent transit subsidy, covered parking (where available) for those who carpool, and other activities/promotions throughout the year.
