Disc Golf Course

An 18-hole disc golf course is located at Thunderbird Paseo Park at the 59th Avenue and Thunderbird Road entrance. The course begins on the west side of 59th Avenue.

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc or Frisbee®. The sport was formalized in the 1970's and shares with "ball golf" the object of completing each hole in the fewest number of strokes or, in the case of disc golf, fewest number of throws.

Open 6 a.m. to sunset.

  • Object: Have fun and complete the course in the fewest throws.
  • Tee Off: Each of the 18 holes has a tee area and each tee shot must be thrown from within this tee area.
  • Lie: The spot where the disc comes to rest.
  • Throwing Order: Lowest score on the previous hole throws first from the tee. After that it is determined by distance from the basket, with the furthest first.
  • Fairway Throws: Can be completed with a run-up but must be released before crossing the lie. One supporting point on release should be directly behind the lie.
  • Putts: Any throw within 10 meters (approximately 33 ft.) is considered a putt. Falling or stepping past the lie before the disc comes to rest is a falling putt and therefore is a re-putt. First offense is no penalty, subsequent offenses are a stroke per offense.
  • Completion of Hole: A hole is complete when the disc is in the basket or supported by the chains. Discs on top of the basket do not count.
  • Out of Bounds: A throw that lands out of bounds must be played from where it last was in bounds and a one-stroke penalty is incurred. Each tee sign covers out of bounds for that hole.
  • Courtesy: Do not throw if other players or park users are in range, wait or courteously request for help in finishing your round.

RULES

  1. Be earth conscious. Don't litter!
  2. Disc golf is played like ball golf, using flying discs. One stroke is counted each time the disc is thrown and when a penalty is incurred. The winner is the golfer with the lowest score.
  3. Tee throws must be completed within the designated tee areas Beginners should always use "short" tees, when provided.
  4. After teeing off, the player whose disc is farthest from the hole always throws first. The player with the fewest strokes on the previous hole is the first to tee off.
  5. Fairway throws must be made with the foot closest to the hole on the spot where the last throw came to rest. The other foot may be no closer to the hole than the foot on this line.
  6. A run-up and normal follow-through after release are allowed more than 10 meters from the hole. Inside 10 meters, a player may not step past his/her line. "Falling" or "jumping" putts are not allowed inside 10 meters.
  7. A disc that comes to rest inside the Disc Pole Hole basket or chains constitutes successful completion of that hole. A disc that comes to rest on top of the pole does NOT constitute a successful putt.
  8. A disc that comes to rest more than two meters above the ground is considered unplayable. The disc must be thrown from the ground directly below the disc. One stroke penalty.
  9. A throw that lands out of bounds must be played from the point where the disc went out of bounds. One stroke penalty. Water, roads, pavilions and walkways are normal disc golf out-of-bounds hazards.
  10. Never throw until the players ahead of you are out of range and until the fairway is completely clear of spectators and park guests.
