The Glendale Fire Department Cadet Program is a great way to learn about the fire service and prepare for a career as a firefighter. Cadets will gain hands-on experience, learn the skills and knowledge they need to be successful, and build relationships with firefighters.
What is the Cadet Program?
The Cadet Program is open to individuals interested in a hands-on learning experience, working towards a career in the fire service. Cadets will participate in a variety of activities, including:
•Riding on fire apparatus with sworn personnel
•Learning about fire suppression, emergency medical services, and hazardous materials response
•Working in full firefighter personal protective equipment
•Participating in physical training
•Attending monthly meetings and drills
•Learning about the history and traditions of the fire service
What are the requirements to join the Cadet Program?
To be eligible to join the Cadet Program, you must:
•Be at least 18 years old
•Have a valid driver's license
•Be in good physical condition
•Be able to pass a background check
•Obtain EMT certification within 1 year of joining Cadets
Commitment
•Every month cadets are required to fulfill 16 hours of volunteer time on a fire truck with their assigned mentor.
•Cadets must also attend 2 out of 3 scheduled events per month.
