How do people become homeless?
People are entering homelessness at increasing rates across the nation and Glendale is no stranger to this crisis. There is no one reason or event that can be identified as the cause for an individual becoming homeless. Rather, there are often many circumstances that contribute to homelessness and each factor(s) is as unique as each person.
SOME FACTORS INCLUDE:
- Poverty
- Unemployment
- Lack of affordable housing
- Mental and substance use disorders
- Trauma
- Domestic abuse and/or violence
- Legal issues/incarceration
- Participation in the foster care system
- Disability
The path to homelessness is different for everyone, so the solution must be specific to each person’s needs. Ending a person’s homelessness is a unique journey that requires a range of services and no one provider can address all needs; this isn’t a problem solved overnight. Glendale is committed to solving homelessness and ensuring that everyone has a safe place to call home.
