Stay Safe this Holiday Season!
Christmas Tree Safety:
Christmas tree fires are rare, but they can spread quickly. Follow these simple tips to keep your home safe:
- Choose a fresh tree to prevent dryness.
- Water your tree daily to keep it hydrated.
- Keep trees at least three feet away from heat sources like fireplaces, candles, and heaters.
- Use UL-listed Christmas lights to ensure safety.
- Avoid overloading electrical outlets.
- Dispose of your tree if it stops absorbing water.
- Dispose of your tree promptly after the holidays.
Smoke Alarm Safety:
- Ensure you have working smoke alarms in your home.
- Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and on each level of your home.
- Test smoke alarms monthly to make sure they are working.
- Change the batteries at least once a year or if you hear the low battery "chirp."
- Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
- If your smoke alarm sounds, exit the home immediately and call 911.
