Stay Safe this Holiday Season!

Christmas Tree Safety:

Christmas tree fires are rare, but they can spread quickly. Follow these simple tips to keep your home safe:

  • Choose a fresh tree to prevent dryness.
  • Water your tree daily to keep it hydrated.
  • Keep trees at least three feet away from heat sources like fireplaces, candles, and heaters.
  • Use UL-listed Christmas lights to ensure safety.
  • Avoid overloading electrical outlets.
  • Dispose of your tree if it stops absorbing water.
  • Dispose of your tree promptly after the holidays.

Smoke Alarm Safety:

  • Ensure you have working smoke alarms in your home.
  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, hallway, and on each level of your home.
  • Test smoke alarms monthly to make sure they are working.
  • Change the batteries at least once a year or if you hear the low battery "chirp."
  • Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
  • If your smoke alarm sounds, exit the home immediately and call 911.
