Rising Together
Artists: Miguel Angel Godoy and Edgar Fernandez
1,368 Sq Ft. Polytab Mural
Completed in November 2022
This mural is titled “Rising Together” and the concept the artists chose for the design reflects images and words in both and English and Spanish that were collected from touring the center and meeting with the staff. The foundation for the images were built on words of affirmation set against our beautiful Arizona sunset. Artists included the hummingbirds and bougainvilleas as images that symbolize resilience, bravery, strength, spirituality, transformation and healing. The paper plane is symbolic of imagination, optimism, belief and is a suggestion of throwing our wildest ambitions and desires into the Universe. What better way to imagine that than through the mind of a child, our inner child included. The golden doodle Oliver, affectionately referred to as “Ollie” is the therapy dog that is onsite and is quite the figure, he is illustrated on the paper plane. The orbs that surround the hand/paper plane are symbolic of angels, messengers, or spiritual energies that protect the space and those Survivors of crime.
