CALLING ALL WEST VALLEY FOODIES!

Glendale to welcome four of the Valley’s top eateries

Glendale, Ariz. – Calling all foodies! Glendale will soon be home to some of the valley’s trendiest restaurants. The dining options will include deep dish pizza, hotdogs, Mexican treats and delicious breakfast. Since the opening of Arrowhead BMW, Glendale’s Arrowhead neighborhood has seen a boost in development. In recent months it’s all about the food. Several new restaurants are slated to open in the area in 2020.

Arrowhead Towne Center has seen unprecedented year-over-year growth, surpassing most of the Valley’s regional malls. Focusing on placemaking with outdoor concerts and creating “instagrammable moments,” it continues to build a sense of community for West Valley residents and visitors. “This is great news,” said economic development director, Brian Friedman. “We know the West Valley has the buying power to support these signature restaurants and look forward to welcoming them and many more.”

Lou Malnati’s

If you are a deep-dish pizza lover, Chicago based Lou Malnati’s will be opening its fourth location in the Valley. Arizona has proven to be a fan of this deep-dish pizza haven. The Chicago favorite will open at 75th Avenue and Rose Garden Ln (just south of Deer Valley Road) and is expected to be take-out only. According to Chrissy Teigen, Olivia Munn, Jim Gaffigan and Chef Anne Burrell this is cause for celebration. If you win “The Best Pizza in Chicago,” award, you’re the real deal and Glendale is ready. This will be their first West Valley location.

Matt’s Big Breakfast

Few things are better than farm to table delicious breakfast. Getting ready to open in the same area (just two doors down from Lou Malnati’s) is Matt’s Big Breakfast which will bring their exclusive “Scratch cooking, honest ingredients,” to the West Valley. The nearly always packed to the brim homestyle restaurant has been featured in a multitude of publications including bon appétit, EATER and Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Since it first opened its doors, the popular breakfast locale prides itself on the many local partnerships with artisans who provide fresh products farm to table. Some of these partners include Hickman’s Family Farm, McClendon’s Select Citrus and The Pork Shop of Queen Creek. Matt’s is expected to open in the Summer of 2020.

Portillo’s

Chicago White Sox fans and locals alike will also enjoy Portillo’s, another concept hailing from the Windy City. Portillo’s will be bringing their top-notch hot dog and Italian beef sandwich creations to Glendale, their fourth valley location. Plans call for a complete tear down and rebuild of the existing Old Country Buffet located at 17125 N 79th Avenue. The building will be approximately 8,000 square-feet and will feature patio seating and a drive-thru. Construction is expected to start the first quarter of 2020.

Barrio Queen

Also opening in the Arrowhead Towne Center area is Barrio Queen. They will be serving their authentic regional recipes in the 7,200 square-foot space formerly occupied by Rock Bottom. The restaurant will feature two large patios with seating for nearly 200 guests. “We can’t wait to be part of the Glendale community,” said co-owner Steve Rosenfield. “This has been a long time coming,” he added. The happening eatery is expected to open in early 2020 just in time to welcome Spring Training baseball fans. Arrowhead will be their biggest location to date and will also feature a mercado, with hand-blown glass flown in from Mexico.

"We're thrilled to have more restaurants coming to the Northwest Valley! We're experiencing explosive residential growth in this area with thousands of new homes being built, but not enough quality shopping and dining options to meet the demand of the residential growth. We have a thriving community up here and residents are eager to have more high-quality dining options to support,” said Katie Roe from Upper West Side PHX, a grassroots advocacy group focused on encouraging specialty shops and restaurants to come to the Northwest Valley.

Glendale continues to see a wave of growth with no signs of slowing down.
