Glendale Community College Celebrates 60th Anniversary
From farmland to one of the largest community colleges in the state, GCC Celebrates 60 years

Glendale Community College (GCC) is proud to announce its 60th anniversary, marking six decades of providing excellent education and fostering student success. Since opening its doors in 1965, GCC has grown into one of the region's largest and most successful institutions, offering a wide array of academic, vocational, and extracurricular opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds.

To commemorate this significant milestone, GCC hosted an anniversary celebration on April 1, where hundreds of students, staff, alumni, and community members gathered to celebrate the college’s history and achievements.

“The impact that this institution has had on countless lives over the past 60 years is immeasurable,” said Dr. Tiffany Hernandez, GCC President. “From the young, first-generation student nervously trying to find their way in life, the adult learner returning to school, determined to get a fresh start, the faculty member experiencing the joy of sharing their knowledge, to the staff who know that the job they do is helping to transform lives - GCC has impacted us all. GCC has created deep relationships with the community, surrounding municipalities, service organizations and local businesses.”

Since 1965, GCC has welcomed over half a million students, and currently offers 41 associate degrees, 61 certificate programs, and a range of non-degree offerings, all available to students in traditional, online and hybrid formats.

GCC is integral to the city’s prosperity, providing educational opportunities, economic benefits, community engagement, and contributing to the overall well-being and vibrancy of Glendale.

“I would like to wish Glendale Community College a happy 60th birthday,” said Glendale Mayor, Jerry P. Weiers. “GCC has been a pillar in our community and offers our citizens an opportunity for higher education.”

Mayor Weiers continued, “I am very thankful for their partnerships and programs we have been able to develop with Glendale Community College. They are a huge advocate for my Stand Up to Veterans project, which is crucial to honor those who serve our great nation.”
