Community hosts 8th annual Granada Estates Serve Day

More than 200 volunteers are coming together for the annual Granada Estates Serve Day to breathe new life into the community. On Saturday, February 17 at 7:30 a.m., the community will help revitalize Granada Estates, located at 67th Avenue between Greenway Road and Paradise Lane.

This is the third year Sahuaro District Councilmember Ray Malnar and the city have recognized that the Granada Estates community is an under resourced neighborhood and have continued to organize this day of service. Through this collaborative effort, 30 percent of Granada Estates will be directly impacted from yard maintenance, rock spreading and painting addresses in front of homes to assist our first responders. The city of Glendale Community Services Department provides the tools and wheelbarrows to assist in completing all projects.

“Thanks to our large group of volunteers, we are able to give Granada Estates a well-deserved face-lift,” said Sahuaro District Councilmember Ray Malnar. “The goal of this project is to help impact the quality of life within Granada Estates. Our volunteers not only assist on the outside of the homes, but they also leave residents with information and materials to help maintain their yards and homes for the future.”

Granada Estates Serve Day is made possible by the Granada Estates Coalition which consists of citizens, churches, nonprofits, businesses, universities, several city of Glendale departments and Sahuaro District Councilmember, Ray Malnar.

The Granada Estates Coalition was the brainchild of Allen Bartimioli, a resident of Granada Estates a former Pastor at Faith Bible Church. Bartimioli adopted the Granada Estates neighborhood when he took over as pastor. He finds his life purpose in helping to make the community prosperous by holding this annual Serve Day. The coalition aims to improve the lives of people living in the neighborhood. Other groups taking part in the annual Serve Day include active-duty members from Luke Air Force Base, Arizona Christian University, Home Depot, Apollo High School, Faith Bible, Venture and Central Christian Churches, the Glendale Fire and Police departments and individual volunteers.
