Mayor’s Youth Advisory Commission Spends Sunday Cleaning Up A Busy Roadway In Glendale
Back in 1986, then Mayor, George Renner created a commission to encourage Glendale’s youth to take pride in our community. Fast forward to today, Mayor Jerry P. Weiers oversees the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Commission (MYAC), comprised of local high school students who are looking to make an impact on our community. The MYAC students picked up garbage and debris on Camelback Road between 67th Avenue and 75th Avenue this past Sunday, March 23.
“It is remarkable to see how far this commission has come since 1986,” said Mayor Weiers. “Each year our commission continues to impress me. These remarkable young men and women are committed to keeping our community beautiful and safe. I would not be surprised one bit if you are looking at the future Mayor of our city in this group.”
MYAC engages high school students from the public high schools in Glendale, as well as private and charter schools. This commission provides these students with opportunities to make a positive impact on the city by getting involved in various community service projects. For the 2024-25 school year, MYAC has 31 students, comprised of 11 freshman, 12 sophomores, five juniors and three seniors. This year’s group has completed over 500 total hours of community service, which averages out to 16 hours plus per student.
“We have a superb group of young leaders who I believe in wholeheartedly,” said Mayor Weiers. “These young people are truly the best of the best. The city of Glendale is in great hands for decades to come with this bunch.”
MYAC is made up of a dynamic group of students with the goal of dedicating their time to serving their community. Members can be a high school student who lives within the municipal boundaries of Glendale OR attend a high school within the municipal boundaries of Glendale.
If you have a student about to enter high school or is a current high school student, please consider joining MYAC. Learn more about the commission
